Quebec has introduced a new list of in-demand occupations under the LMIA

The government of Quebec has introduced a new list of in-demand occupations for employers who plan to hire temporary foreign workers under the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process.

There are 228 occupations for 2022, eligible for processing to meet the labour needs of Quebec’s all regions. The new list is effective immediately and gives a 30-day transition period to employers to submit applications under last year’s list. This process will allow more temporary foreign workers in the province to work in sectors that face labour shortages and helps employers to fill their job vacancies.

According to the Quebec government, newcomers, including temporary foreign workers, will be able to fill 22% of job vacancies by 2026. Due to the growing need for new workers, Quebec has actively adjusted its immigration policies to allow more immigrants to come to the province.

Also, several programs have recently been implemented or expanded in Quebec to make it easier for employers to hire foreign workers. An employer who wants to hire a temporary foreign worker must provide proof that they have advertised the position and tried to recruit candidates before they can apply for an LMIA.

Employers who hire temporary foreign workers in Quebec for certain targeted positions must also apply for an LMIA, but the application process is simpler and faster.
