The Canadian government continues to support the Global Compact for Migration

Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) participated on May 19, 2022 in the International Migration Review Forum in New York to build momentum and contribute to the Global Compact for Migration (GCM).

The minister announced that Canada will promote gender-responsive migration programs through the Canada-funded Gender and Migration Hub to support countries in implementing gender-sensitive immigration and integration programs.

Canada will increase the share of immigrants in the country up to 30% by 2036 and increase diversity, acceptance, and understanding within the country.

In order to reduce the factors contributing to high-risk migration and forced displacement, Canada will support activities that assist women and girls affected by irregular migration and forced displacement in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

Canada will continue to align its national policies and programs with the goals of the GCM’s objectives. Canada will continue to promote GCM internationally with its partners to encourage migration through regular pathways.
