Canada’s Business Council says immigrants are vital to the Canadian economy

Updated: Jul 14, 2022

As the world becomes more and more connected, the demand for skilled workers continues to rise. At the same time, Canada is seeing a decline in the number of young people entering the workforce. This has created a perfect storm that is making it increasingly difficult for businesses to find the talent they need. To meet this challenge, businesses must be open to recruiting skilled workers from other countries. The Business Council of Canada (BCC) released the results of a survey on how Canadian companies use Canada's immigration systems to recruit skilled employees.

The results of the survey

On June 24, 2022, the Business Council of Canada (BCC) released a survey of 80 Canadian companies regarding their use of Canada's immigration system to recruit skilled employees. According to the survey results, two-thirds of businesses looked for individuals outside of the country, while only one-third hired immigrants who had already settled in Canada. The companies surveyed have a combined 1.6 million people on their payrolls. The results of the survey suggest that Canada's immigration system is effective in helping businesses to find the skilled workers they need. About two-thirds of organizations used Canada's immigration system to look for individuals outside the country. And only one-third hires people who have already settled in Canada as immigrants.

Despite the overall positive response, it is also clear in the survey that there is room for improvement. For instance, the survey found that nearly half of businesses were not satisfied with the amount of time it took to process immigration applications. This suggests that there may be lengthy delays in the system that are causing problems for businesses. To ensure that Canada's immigration system continues to meet the needs of businesses and skilled workers, it is important to address these issues and make improvements where necessary.

Immigrants are vital to the Canadian economy

Canadian companies rely on immigrants to fill many crucial roles. From high-tech workers to agricultural laborers, immigrants play a vital role in keeping Canadian businesses running smoothly. In fact, without immigrants, many Canadian businesses would simply grind to a halt. This is especially true in industries that require seasonal workers, such as agriculture and tourism. Each year, Canadian businesses rely on immigrants to fill thousands of positions that would otherwise go unfilled. As a result, immigrants are an essential part of the Canadian economy. Canadian businesses would be wise to continue to invest in immigrant talent to remain competitive in the global marketplace.
