Canadians have welcomed more Ukrainian nationals

Canadian cities have started welcoming Ukrainian nationals. According to the government of Canada, 3,483 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and an additional 8,344 arrived by air between January 1 and March 27, 2022.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has received 80,613 applications under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET) between March 17 and March 28, 2022. The applications of 9,647 Ukrainian nationals and their family members have been approved so far.

More Ukrainians are expected to apply and come to Canada under this special measure. Service Canada works with service delivery partners to provide information about government of Canada programs and services to Ukrainian newcomers, including social insurance number (SIN) clinics delivered at convenient locations.

Canadians have taken action to assist Ukrainians. In collaboration with their partners, they will welcome Ukrainians into their communities and support them until they are able to return to their homes safely.

Ukrainian nationals wishing to immigrate to Canada permanently can apply for permanent residence under a variety of different immigration programs and streams. IRCC also plans to develop a special permanent residence program for family reunification.
