Boosting Healthcare: Support for International Educated Nurses in Newfoundland and Labrador

International Educated Nurses

In a significant move to bolster the healthcare sector, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced a funding of over $260,000. This funding is aimed at supporting the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador and the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador. The primary objective is to expedite the licensure process for International Educated Nurses applying to work in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This initiative is a part of the government's broader strategy to streamline the registration and licensing process for registered nurses, making it easier for nurses educated outside the province, including International Educated Nurses, to work in Newfoundland and Labrador. The funding aligns with the recent amendments to the Registered Nurses Regulations and the Health Accord NL recommendations to improve the recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals.

The funding will be utilized to implement a call-answering service contract, create a Registration Support Assistant position, and launch an incentive program through Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) to assist with costs associated with the National Community Assessment Service Program for eligible candidates.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador recognizes the critical role that internationally educated newcomers play in meeting the demands of our rapidly evolving labour market. The increased licensure of International Educated Nurses is expected to help meet labour challenges in healthcare, while also removing barriers to settlement for newcomers choosing Newfoundland and Labrador as their new home.

At Mesidor Canadian Immigration Services, we applaud this initiative and believe it will significantly benefit International Educated Nurses seeking to work in Newfoundland and Labrador. We encourage all International Educated Nurses interested in this opportunity to reach out to us for guidance and support throughout their immigration process.
